A Letter to the Chamber

Recently, the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce received one of our favorite pieces of mail: a personal letter from a satisfied Chamber member. We are honored to reproduce this letter below, and to let each of our members know that we strive every day toward your success. A thriving business climate means a thriving Chamber, and nothing makes us happier than helping you along your professional journey. We are building a better community together, one business at a time.

Thank you again to Tony Kirby of Arup. You are a shining star and a perfect example of what this community is all about!

Since becoming LAXCCC members in 2014, Arup has enjoyed the many benefits of being members of this fantastic Chamber. I am currently serving a three-year term on the Board of Directors and was recently elected onto the Executive Board too. It is a pleasure to work with so many talented and driven individuals who all work towards the common goal of improving the business environment in our community. My firm, Arup, has greatly benefitted from the exposure to others in the engineering and construction sector through the Chamber, together with meeting others in different sectors, including the rapidly-changing technology sector that is prevailing in our community.

The annual membership fee represents exceptional value and my firm’s active participation in the Chamber has yielded the following benefits, which are hard to truly quantify in terms of value:

  • Participation on the Chamber Board of Directors with senior executives directly related to the engineering and construction sector in which Arup operates its core business, including LAWA senior staff, all major US airlines, property developers and other major Engineering consultants.
  • Regular participation in Power Hours with key speakers that in the past have included Deborah Flint (LAWA CEO) and Art Leahy (Metrolink CEO) in an intimate and assessible environment.
  • Participation in the Chamber Infrastructure and Engineering Committee that has included hosting events with LAWA, LA Metro and LADWP speakers.
  • Regular networking opportunities with other significant players in the Engineering and Construction sector including Skanska, Kieiwt, Parsons, AECOM, JGM, the LINXS team working to deliver the LAWA APM, and Austin Commercial.

The Chamber’s events are truly different. They are always hosted in fantastic venues with a relaxed atmosphere and excellent food and drink. These events are so different to what I have been used to attending in my firm’s sector and a welcome “breath of fresh air”. I would be happy to speak with any prospective new members and convey the value of being a part of such a welcoming, influential and fun Chamber, particularly those in the Engineering and Construction industry.

Yours sincerely

Tony Kirby
