The Season of Giving Back

The holiday season is all about making a difference. From the little things—giving gifts—to the bigger moments—giving back—camaraderie and community is in the air. Regardless of the season, the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce spends each day working for, and advocating on behalf of, the businesses they represent. The Chamber is there to be your voice and your resource, always striving to elevate the business climate through your company’s success, and they are proud of the community they have helped to build.

Join us at our annual Holiday Mixer

Each year, during their annual Networking @ Night Holiday Mixer, the LAX Coastal Chamber takes their work one step further by donating net proceeds to a worthy cause within the LAX Coastal region. This year, they would like to recognize two amazing organizations that are making a difference: the Friends of Ballona Wetlands and Michelle’s Table Scholarship Program.

Friends of Ballona Wetlands

The Friends of Ballona Wetlands has been protecting and restoring the Ballona Wetlands for over 39 years with the help of more than 95,000 volunteers. Our local wetlands are an important piece of the ecosystem, serving as a rest stop and fueling source for migrating birds, a nursery for young fishes, a water filtration system, a flood buffer, and more. They are also a landmark to learn more about some of our region’s first inhabitants, the Tongva, who inhabited the wetlands roughly 3 to 5 thousand years ago. In the many centuries since the Tongva, more than 900 acres of the wetlands have been destroyed, but through the work of the Friends of Ballona Wetlands and their many volunteers, the natural habitat now includes roughly 600 acres of protected land.

The late Michelle Vo, the inspiration behind Michelle’s Table

Michelle’s Table is a newly-found scholarship program dedicated to raising money for college scholarships for women who demonstrate leadership in their community. This program was started in honor of the late Michelle Vo who tragically lost her life in the Las Vegas shooting. Michelle was a powerful female leader and LAX Coastal Chamber member, with a contagious enthusiasm and zest for life. Those she left behind are dedicated to keeping her spirit alive through empowering women to #SitAtTheTable and #RaiseYourHand. You are missed, Michelle.

Please join the community at this year’s Networking @ Night Holiday Mixer, hosted by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, December 13 from 5-7pm at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel, located at 9620 Airport Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045. Net proceeds from this event will be split evenly and donated to the Friends of Ballona Wetlands and Michelle’s Table Scholarship Program.
