Your Local Chamber + Your Local Councilmember

Earlier this morning, local professionals joined the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce for their Annual Meeting of the Membership at Hotel MdR in Marina del Rey, featuring keynote speaker Councilmember Mike Bonin, the representative for District 11. As the only open board meeting of the year, community members were encouraged to attend to learn more about how a Chamber of Commerce operates and to witness firsthand how the LAX Coastal Chamber is strengthening our community.

Roughly 100 people were in attendance at this year’s meeting—featuring a hot all-American breakfast buffet courtesy of our generous host, Hotel MdR—and heard from Councilmember Bonin regarding his initiatives to get more patrol officers on our streets and to enhance the resources and workforce of our local fire departments. He also applauded the momentum of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for their recent upgrades and future infrastructure improvements, calling Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) a “world-class airport that is a first-class neighbor.” While addressing the room, Bonin remarked that while there would be some challenges ahead regarding construction and available services, “the end result is really going to be phenomenal.”

Bonin ended his address by directing his thanks to the LAX Coastal Chamber, recognizing them as one of the “most innovative, progressive, and fabulous chambers” in his district—followed by a round of applause.

The 2018 Annual Meeting of the Membership was a deeper dive into the inner workings of the LAX Coastal Chamber. From ex-officio reports from local sheriffs to discussions with committee chairs, this event focused on the financial operations of the chamber, their stance on public policy, their effect within the LAX Coastal community, and how to get more involved. It was also the official launch of the Chamber’s 2018 Annual Report, featuring Chamber statistics, a “Year-In-Review,” and an outline of their budget (which increased by 10.1% from the following year).

Individuals looking to come into a position of leadership within the LAX Coastal Chamber were encouraged to participate, providing them with a closer view on how a Chamber of Commerce and their Board of Directors can work together for the betterment of the area—and how the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce is doing that each day.
